Well, since the KOTB site has gone the way of the dodo I feel I should say stuff about myself on here. As far as music goes I actually started out just messing around with Dave Matthews Band stuff and for awhile I was an avid Incubus fan. I didn't actually discover the blues until I was in college, when my roommate played Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" which totally blew my mind. I started learning to play everything Clapton, and through him I discovered guys like BB King, Robert Johnson, Albert King, Muddy Waters, etc. I am still a huge Clapton fan, although I think he's going soft in his old age. I love all kinds of music really, but in almost all of them I can hear a bit of the blues. You hear so many bands out there these days that play power chord songs with some throaty voiced lead singer pouring his heart out over some girl he lost or something equally heart wrenching. Well, back in the day that was called the blues. The blues is universal - everybody gets the blues. And the blues, as a genre of music, isn't always about being sad. You win the lottery, you gonna play the happy blues. You lost your woman, you gonna play the sad blues. You about to get some lovin, you gonna play the lets-get-it-on blues. And, like Hubert Sumlin said, the blues ain't dead and it ain't about to die. The blues was here before we was here and it's gonna be here after we're gone.
